Just put it on Facebook, you idiots. Or do like we did, and wait until the baby comes out to learn what it is.

This. The only thing that matters is that the baby is healthy. Unfortunately, there are a lot of self centered human beings who jump at the chance to have everyone’s attention focused on them

I believe the proper term for these travesties is “sex” reveal party (+5 woke points for me).
I hate these fucking things with a passion. Did the same as you. Didn’t know my daughters were daughters until I heloed guide them out of my wife’s womb.

Social media will be the death of us all.

We even waited to find out with our twins. All our kids were C section, and while I was there, they wouldn’t let me help, for obvious reasons. Our oldest was 10 lb 5 oz, breech, with the cord around his neck. The sort of situation that might have killed both mom and baby back in the day. And the twins were 6 and 7 pounds. I don’t know how my wife was able to cart all that around.

I believe “gender” wasn’t really intended to be used to describe the sex of a person, but since “sex” is such a loaded word...

This is why we can’t have nice things people!

I was just reading about this since I was trying to figure out why Google maps is saying a 45 minute delay to get home. The gender reveal bullshit is on the other end of the state but another fire started in the grapevine due to a car fire. Yesterday I saw 118F on my drive so no wonder why everything is lighting up. Meanwhile I camped at 8000 feet so it was nice in the 60s. Too bad I have to work tomorrow, otherwise I should just stay out here.
Also, trails near home are closed officially due to the heat. A hiker died and many others were rescued. Hiking at low elevations in this heat is a very poor choice. Global warming is a myth!

Global warming is a myth ‘round here. August was 75th coolest out of the last 150 years, so exactly average.
I want my 90s to drop the windshield. Only managed it once this summer.

People just don’t think sometimes ... M y FIL responded to a fire years ago, (he was a volunteer FD, ) where a farmer had been cutting irrigation pipe out in the middle of a big, dry field spraying sparks 30 feet behind him. He gets the pipe cut, turns around and goes, “oh sh!t...” Wind catches it and 10 00 acres later...

Glad to hear momma and kids got through everything alright. Twins are a whole other ballgame.
My wife had both kids at home, because she’s a hippy. First one had the chord around her neck and our midwife did a little move and had her quickly freed up. Second one was a breeze and the midwife told me to get my hands dirty and bring her out. Definitely the most surreal experience of my life.
My SIL also had my nephew at home. He was 10+ lbs. He r fighting weight is maybe 95 lbs, so there were some fitment issues. S he got him out, but had to take a trip to the hospital to get patched up afterwards (broke her tailbone in the process). My wife nursed him so he wouldn’t have to go to the hospital. My SIL was apparently not phased by the experience and will be having another home birth in a few months. Fucking rockstars.

Or wait until the baby is old enough to figure out zir gender for zirself.

We had six hikers die in a weekend a few years ago. They were all within city limits at various mountain parks. They instituted a new rule this year that you have to head back once you’re halfway done with your water. August was our hottest month on record beating out... July.

Gender reveal party sounds like the last baby-related event I would ever attend. Just reveal it on social media and again at the baby shower.

I inspected a property in Georgia last week and made a random comment about how campfires are banned in Colorado right now (for good reason). The property owner got upset and went on a rant about government overstepping their authority, etc. I hope he just can’t comprehend it being so dry that anything can set the state on fire but it was infuriating to listen to, especially during this fire season.

I think I’d like to know if I’m getting a boy or a girl ahead of time, just to prepare, but throwing a whole party about it seems like too much. Aren’t Baby Showers supposed to take care of that?

The world would be a nicer place without all the people.

That was at least a situation where your FIL was doing something useful. These gender reveal idiot were thinking—of themselves.

Rockstars indeed. Our second two were by C section because doctors still believed that if you had on C sec you had to have them all that way. That thinking has changed, though. The doctor was a true artist, though. No scars.

We had showers for our kids and all the gifts were non-specific. It works just fine.

Isn't that supposed to be common sense?? I see too many people not hike with any water or at most a small 0.5L bottle. My goal is to drink about a gallon sometime before a hike and then about 2-3L on the hike depending on length. On Saturday I went through 6L on a 10 mile hike. That 3L refill at the top from an alpine stream was glorious and I mixed in a package of liquid iv. Hydration feels so damn good.

Groan. Woke points are l ike license points. The more you have, the more you should have to pay . We can call them carbon credits if you’d like.
These gender reveal parties are dumb AF. It’s millennial bullshit for “everything gets a party”.

I agree.

You’d think. I don’t even drive around town without a few liters of water, and usually carry some extra plastic bottles for pedestrians.
Shitty footwear is another issue. One of the local SO’s started shaming hikers who they had to rescue. Pretty bad when cops are making you look like an idiot.

Shitty footwear can be the best disguise though. Was once questioned by the police for trespassing as a high schooler. Friend of mine decided to do this abandoned building exploration in flip flops. Well the cop believed us when we said we never made it in since nobody would be stupid enough to try it in flip flops.
